Our mission is to promote the conservation, preservation, and restoration of ecosystems; and of the rich multi-cultural history of Durham and surrounding areas.

Deep Roots Natives is a social enterprise committed to the science and practice of restoring not only ecosystems, but human and cultural relationships to place, so that cultures are strengthened and revitalized along with the lands to which they are inextricably linked. We acknowledge that the diversity of life includes the diversity of flora and fauna, habitats and ecosystems, and also of the diversity of human cultures and languages.

Deep Roots embraces biophilia and community partnerships: the provision of affordable native, pollinator and edible plants; the design and installation of sustainable landscapes that restore our environment; community engagement to create fair-wage employment in for individuals experiencing trauma; support for local artists and producers; a community space for authentic conversations, and engagement and education programs that build awareness, skills and habits that support conservation, preservation, and restoration of the Triangle’s biocultural fabric.

Nursery Hours

Friday: 8:00am – 6:00pm

Native Plant Nursery

The Deep Roots Natives plant nursery sells over 50 species of native plants as well as non-invasive pollinator and edible plants, fruit trees and architectural trees.


Landscaping & Ecological Restoration

For more than 20 years, Artistry in Plants has designed and installed sustainable, ecologically responsible gardens in the Triangle for over 20 years.

Community Restoration & Education

Deep Roots cultivates biophilia and socio-ecological justice through our inclusve employment program and our partnerships with Indigenous Memories and Ribbons of Color and education programs that promote healing and reconnect people to Mother Nature.
