A landscape dominated by native plants supports plant and animal species adapted to the local environment. This can foster a healthier ecosystem, help conserve water, improve soil health, provide pollinator support, and restore natural habitats. On top of all these benefits, native landscapes are beautiful, showcasing a unique and diverse range of colors, textures, and forms that reflect the local environment.
At Deep Roots Natives, our garden center is dedicated to supporting the conservation and preservation of ecological restoration within our local community. We provide members of the Durham, North Carolina area with access to native plants, helping homeowners become part of the movement to bring native species to their landscaped and gardened areas.
At our garden center, we offer hundreds of native plant options, including perennials, shrubs, trees, grasses and sedges, and more. Our staff can make specific recommendations for your landscape or garden based on the soil, light, and moisture conditions of your space, ensuring your plants grow and thrive throughout every season. As the only native plant retailer in the area recommended by the New Hope Audubon Society and the North Carolina Native Plant Society, you can trust our suggestions and advice.
After visiting our garden center, the landscape design and installation professionals at our sister company, Garden Environments, can install the plants you select and help you beautify your outdoor space. The `Blue Note` Blue-Eyed Grass is a special member of the Iris family.
It`s striking blue/violet blooms appear in the late spring to early summer. This native, self seeding plant has an extensive history and is loved by many. Not only is it beautiful, but it`s also a great food source for our birds, bee`s and butterflies!
Even with this cold weather, our Gaultheria `Cherries Berries` Wintergreens are thriving!
🍒This evergreen ground cover produces beautiful, waxy white flowers that bloom during mid Spring. Following these flowers are striking berries. They grow to be the size of cherries, hence the name. `Cherrie Berries` start to appear around late Summer to late Winter.
🍒These berries are an important source of food for birds this time of year. However, we can eat them too! The most common way of consuming these berries are to be made into a tea. Some people eat them raw too! They have a "Wintergreen Mint" taste to them.
